I see several problems with your analysis, but one big one in particular. I don't know if Saddam actually averaged 50 killings per day or not, so I'll just assume that it's true at the moment. The biggest difference between Saddam and what's happening now is that Saddam was a binge killer: he killed lots of people in short time spans, but in between the killings were relative peace and security. Today there are continuous killings with no peace and no security for the majority of people in Iraq. The numbers might be the same, but I'd wager that the psychological effect is pretty different.


FYI, I transcribed a bunch of things I wrote at my old job and posted them on my blog. I also started to write that long blog-post I promised everyone. I still have a long way to go on it.
