The friends of mine who have worked in mainland China have noted they're extremely wary of evangelical Christian guests.

Well, I'm not an evangelical Christian. But actually, that's another attraction of going to China: Christianity there is especially vibrant and dynamic, even if it's a small-- but rapidly growing!-- minority of the population. It would be interesting to meet and mingle with those Chinese Christians. And if I get in trouble, there's an upside to that, too. "Blessed are you when men shall revile you and persecute you for My sake..."

Colin worked in China for awhile, and he was there earlier this Summer (he might still be there, in fact). He would be a good person to talk to about the prospect of working there.
