Permit me a minute of horse race:
I think McCain is probably the only one. Giuliani just looks good because things haven't gotten really nasty yet. Clinton is an extremely ruthless and effective operator who would tear Giuliani apart. McCain has been around the national politics neighborhood longer and has less to explain.

It also just so happens that I think McCain would also be the best of the GOP in the actual job.

McCain's a good choice, though I prefer a rEVOLution. McCain is fairly progressive for a Republican, he's bipartisan, he's a war hero, and he has enough influence to get congress to work with him, no matter which party is in the majority. It's just too bad he wasn't elected 7 years ago.

Okay, I should say: if it's between McCain and Ron Paul, I would choose the latter. He wouldn't get any of the stupid stuff done (except maybe the immigration stuff? That's worrying, but he seems like too much of a civil libertarian to be a true Dobbsian fascist) and would stop a lot of the other stupid stuff that a Dem congress would want to do. Most importantly, I feel confident he would reinstate most of the freedoms we've given up in the post 9/11 world.
