The economic dominance of the US after WWII was the result of numerous factors, but possibly the largest factor was the introduction and growing participation of women in sectors that were mostly or solely dominated by men. It's also worth noting that the US absorbed a great many refugees and immigrants, and the largest generation of Americans "the Baby Boomers" attained working age shortly thereafter. This effective doubling of the workforce spurred economic growth like nothing else. And the growth might have been even greater if not for FDR's policies and programs, though as Nathan points out, it's tough to know for sure.
